Viscount Trenchard
Viscount Trenchard , of Wolfeton in the County of Dorset , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Viscounts family seat is Standon Lordship near Ware in East Hertfordshire .
Award
The title was bestowed on the first Marshal of the Royal Air Force Hugh Trenchard, 1st Baron Trenchard , in 1936 . During the First World War he had been commander in chief of the Army Air Force stationed in France and in the following decade he had been commander in chief of the newly formed Royal Air Force . Until 1935 he was Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service .
Subordinate title
The first Viscount had been appointed Baronet , of Wolfeton in the County of Dorset in 1919. In 1927 he was also raised to Baron Trenchard , of Wolfeton in the County of Dorset. Both titles are now listed as subordinate titles.
