Annie Schmidt-Endres

Annie Schmidt-Endres (born December 29, 1903 in Csatád ( German  Lenauheim ), Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary , † May 17, 1977 in Kelheim , Lower Bavaria ) was a German writer .

Life

Annie Endres attended the elementary school in Csatád in the Banat from 1910 to 1914 and a monastery school in Szeged from 1914 to 1917 . During this time she made her first poetic attempts in the Hungarian language. From 1917 to 1918 she attended the School of the Poor School Sisters Notre Dame in Temesvár , then the commercial school. Annie Endres left school at her parents' request and returned to Csatád, where she devoted herself to poetry and music. In the summer of 1927 Annie Endres married the doctor Dr. Josef Schmidt from Iecea Mare . Their son Edwin Günther Schmidt-Endres was born on October 9, 1928.

In 1933 she began under the pseudonym Lea Walden with regular publications in the Banater monthly books , in the Swabian People's Calendar , in the German Cooperative Calendar and in the Hatzfeld People's Calendar . The first independent publication appeared in 1935: “Lieder im Volkston” from the Swabian folk piece “Banater Leben”. In 1936 she was a founding member of the "Werkgemeinschaft Schwäbischer Künstler und Kunstfreunde" and read from her works at various events of this association. The poet worked as a librarian, civil servant, press officer for the health department and temporarily represented a colleague at the Banater Deutsche Zeitung in Timișoara. In 1940 she was dismissed from her civil service in Jimbolia because of her pacifist attitudes . In 1944 she was interned in a camp in Linz , later in Schwäbisch Gmünd , but resumed her artistic work after the war. Her 70th birthday was celebrated in 1973 in the Banat Swabian press with many greetings and congratulations. On May 17, 1977, the poet Annie Schmidt-Endres died in the hospital in Kelheim. It was laid to rest in the forest cemetery there.
