Ferdinand Julius von Troyer (Czech: Ferdinand Julius Troyer z Troyersteinu ; born January 20, 1698 in Brixen , † February 5, 1758 in Brno ) was Prince-Bishop of Olomouc and cardinal .

Life

His parents were Franz Anton Graf von Troyer and Maria Maximiliana, nee from Teufenbach. Ferdinand Julius studied as an alumne of the Collegium Germanicum in Rome, where he was ordained priest on December 21, 1720 and in 1722 as Dr. theol. received his doctorate. After he became archdeacon of Troppau in 1731 , he became a cathedral scholar in Olomouc in 1741 .

After the translation of Bishop Jakob Ernst von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn to Salzburg , the Olomouc Cathedral Chapter unanimously elected Ferdinand Julius von Troyer as his successor on December 9, 1745. The Pope confirmed the election on March 28, 1746. The episcopal ordination took place on May 22, 1746 by the Auxiliary Bishop of Olomouc Otto Honorius von Eghk and Hungersbach , a brother of the later Olomouc Bishop Leopold Friedrich von Egkh and Hungersbach ; Co- consecrators were Franz Anton Engl Graf von Wagrain , Bishop of Belgrade , and Johann Franz Anton von Khevenhüller , former Bishop of Wiener Neustadt .

In 1746 Pope Benedict XIV appointed Ferdinand Julius to the College of Cardinals as cardinal priest . After the death of the Viennese archbishop Sigismund von Kollonitz , Maria Theresa appointed him protector of the German nation in 1751 and awarded him and his brother Christoph the Moravian incolate in 1754 .

As Bishop of Olomouc, Ferdinand Julius founded several new deaneries and parishes and carried out a diocesan visitation . He also endeavored to continue the process of beatification initiated by Bishop Wolfgang Hannibal von Schrattenbach for the Moravian priest Jan Sarkander, who died in 1620 as a result of torture .

During his tenure, the prince-bishop's Kremsier Castle , destroyed by fire , the Piarist Church there and Wischau Castle were renovated. The Jagdschlösschen Ferdinandsruh , Juliusburg and Troyerstein were rebuilt.
