Leopold Friedrich von Egkh and Hungersbach (according to the Olomouc bishops' list: Leopold II. Friedrich von Egkh and Hungersbach ; Czech: Leopold Fridrich hrabě z Egkhu ; * May 14, 1696 in Hamburg ; † December 15, 1760 ) was Prince-Bishop of Olomouc .

Life

His parents were the imperial count Christian von Egkh and Hungersbach, Erbtruchsess von Krain and the Windischen Mark , imperial secret council, envoy and minister in the Lower Saxony district of Hamburg as well as Eva Christiana, née. from Speidl. Leopold Friedrich was the youngest of six brothers. Brother Otto Honorius was auxiliary bishop in Olomouc and brother Andreas Gundacker provost of Großmeseritsch .

Leopold Friedrich studied in Rome from 1711 to 1714, where he was an alum of the Collegium Germanicum . After being ordained a priest in 1721, he was canon in Freising and Olmütz in 1722 , provost of St. Mauritius in Kremsier and abbot in Szerengrad, Hungary, in 1729. In 1735 he obtained the academic degree of Dr. theol. in Olomouc, where he was promoted to archdeacon three years later and appointed vicar general and official in 1750 by Bishop Ferdinand Julius von Troyer and elected dean of the cathedral in 1752 .

After the death of Ferdinand Julius von Troyer, Leopold Friedrich was unanimously elected as his successor by the cathedral chapter on April 27, 1758 , and was confirmed papally on October 2, 1758. The episcopal ordination took place on November 19, 1758, the enthronement only on September 16, 1759.

During his short term in office, Leopold Friedrich established several foundations. The prince-bishop's mint in Kremsier had to cease operations on the instructions of the Viennese government. After his death, he left the diocese in will funds for the establishment of a seminary . His body was buried in the St. Mauritius Church in Kremsier. The bronze grave monument was created by the sculptor Franz Hiernle . It depicts the bishop kneeling on a prayer stool in front of a pyramid.
