Visunharat Thipath (full throne name Somdet Brhat-Anya Chao Visunha Rajadipati Pada Sri Sadhana Kanayudha ; * 1465 in Sawa (Chiang Dong Chiang Thong), † 1520 in Vieng Chan ) was king of Lan Chang between 1500 and 1520 .

Life

Visunharat Thipath was the seventh son of King Sai Tia Kaphut and was raised privately in the palace. In 1480 he was appointed governor of Vien Chang . In 1491 his brother, King La Sen Thai Puvanart appointed him chief minister and gave him the title of Phya Sena Mueang with the regent name of Visun (lightning). Between 1495 and 1497 he was regent for his younger nephew Somphu , whom he dethroned in 1500 and crowned in 1501.

Visunharat Thipath's government was one of prosperity and peace. Many religious monuments were erected at his instigation, including the Maha Viharn in Wat Visun . A number of religious texts and literary works have also been written or translated into the Lao language .

Visunharat Thipath died in Vieng Chan in 1520, leaving behind a son who succeeded him to the throne of Lan Chang as Phothisarath I (r. 1520–1548).
