Vittore Pisani

Vittore Pisani (born February 23, 1899 in Rome , † December 22, 1990 in Como ) was an Italian linguist . He dealt with the Indo-European languages ​​of Europe and India.

Life

Pisani graduated from the University of Rome with a degree in philology in 1922. From 1933 to 1935 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Florence , from 1936 to 1938 as an associate professor at the University of Cagliari . From 1938 to 1964 he was a professor in Milan , as well as a lecturer in Sanskrit .

Pisani founded and ran the magazine Paideia . His main work is his history of the Latin language (1962–1975). In 1985 he received the Antonio Feltrinelli Prize for his scientific achievements .

He had eleven children with his wife Maria Luger.
