The Vitus Chapel north of Elspe is on a small hill opposite the Weilenscheid . It was built in 1731. It is possible that there was a sanctuary on this site before it was built today.

The chapel is a plastered quarry stone building with a slate roof and turret as well as arched and oval windows. It is spatially characterized by a small baroque hall over an elongated octagon (octagon). The altar with columned retable dates from the middle of the 18th century.

On November 1, 1973 it became known that the Vitus Chapel had been broken into. The following figures have been stolen:

  1. St. Vitus , height 120 cm, wood,
  2. St. Johannes Nepomuk , 105 cm high, wood,
  3. St. Antonius of Padua , 105 cm, tall, wood,
  4. St. Rochus , 90 cm high, wood,
  5. St. Sebastian , 90 cm high, wood,
  6. two putti , torn from the fortification of the altar, height unknown, wood.

In a storm night from February 3rd to 4th, 1990, one of the tall, mighty and old linden trees fell, which has always surrounded the Vitus Chapel. When it fell it tore one of the younger linden trees with it. Another tree standing near the chapel door was split lengthways and then felled, as it threatened to fall on the roof of the chapel. As the old linden tree was already hollow inside and had a wide, open slit on the east side, it had been bricked up decades ago as a precaution, a measure that could not prevent its collapse in the storm in 1990.

The Vitus Chapel has been entered in the list of monuments of the city of Lennestadt , Part A, No. 23, since July 18, 1988 .
