Viya (Chinese薇娅* 7. September 1986 in Lujiang , Province of Anhui , civil Huang Wei) is a Chinese live streaming - Influencerin , singer and businesswoman.
Professional background
Little is known about Viya's biography prior to her success. In 2003, she moved to Beijing with her fiancé. Viya was originally a singer and ran a Taobao shop for textiles in Beijing . Taobao later signed her as a model and finally offered her shows for Alibaba's platform Tmall in 2016 .
In her live streaming broadcasts on Alibaba's Taobao platform , she recommends a variety of products to her numerous followers, from noodles and cosmetics to electric cars. Viya is the star of the Qianxun platform, which was founded in 2017. This is part of the flourishing live commerce in China: Live streams are an integral part of leisure activities in China. The streams can easily be integrated into shopping platforms such as Alibaba's. Viya's annual income in 2018 was estimated at 30 million yuan . On the first day of the Singles' Day shopping spectacle in 2019 alone , she sold goods worth $ 350 million; in 2020, she sold goods worth well over $ 600 million on that day.
Viya is considered an opinion leader (Key Opinion Leader, KOL), in 2019 she had 6.5 million fans. Due to the pandemic , according to Chinese media, there were already 37 million followers in April 2020 and 82 million followers in 2021. Her following includes people from their teens to their mid-50s, most of whom are very shopping enthusiasts. It is reported that her fans buy what Viya recommends without looking elsewhere for the product.
Viya appeared in the film Wo he wo de jia xiang and the TV series Back to Field in 2020, and in the series Ben Pao Ba Xiong Di in 2021 .
In December 2021, the Chinese authorities announced that Viya would have to pay around 1.3 billion yuan in 2019 and 2020 for tax evasion. Of this, 643 million yuan is an arrears payment plus a late payment penalty and a fine. She then published a detailed apology on the Weibo online service .
