The Irgenöd bird and animal park is located on the northeastern outskirts of Ortenburg in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .
history
The park was built by Erich Schobesberger as a bird park and opened in 1975. For a long time it was considered the largest bird park in southern Germany.
Today around 100 different bird species and 14 mammal species live in the park, which is why it was renamed the Irgenöd Bird and Zoo . The park area covers six hectares . The park is a member of the German Zoo Society and the German Game Reserve Association.
Livestock
To their holding in the park special bird species include Helmkasuar , Falkland Caracara , several hornbill species , pink flamingos , bald eagle , Andean condor , Marabu , various species of cranes, various species of parrots and parakeets and various species of owls.
Live on mammals in the park miniature horse, camel , meerkat , squirrel monkeys , Chapman zebra , Bennett kangaroo , Great Mara , Katta , Marmoset , handed gibbon , cotton top tamarin , Lama and Chinese muntjac .
Various exotic trees and plants are also shown.
Rearing successes
- In 2012, the bird and animal park succeeded in breeding the helmeted cassowary for the first time, which is extremely rare.
- In 2013 a Bennett kangaroo was bottle-raised.
