The Dehme Bird Park was a bird park in the Dehme district of the East Westphalian city of Bad Oeynhausen . In 2003 it was closed.

history

Alfred Bahr founded the bird park at the southern foot of the Wiehengebirge between Porta Westfalica and the Dehmer Große Weserbogen on the federal road 61 . There he owned a restaurant and some land on which he built the bird park between 1975 and 1978. Bahr started with a canary breeding, in the end there were around 1000 birds of around 250 species. The area of the park was 15,000 square meters.

Parrots , emus , ibises and pheasants as well as ducks and pigeons were found in the bird park . No aviculture was carried out in the park.

After the founder's death, his son took over the facility, but was unable to keep the bird park economically. In 2003 the park was closed, the requirements were too high. In 2009, the Bad Oeynhausen urban development committee decided to make building land out of the site. Six building plots are being created on the site.
