The Volcano W is a submarine double volcano near Curtis Iceland in the field of to New Zealand belonging Kermadec Islands . The southeast of the two volcanoes rises from the sea floor to 900 meters below the sea surface . The basalt volcanoes were discovered in 2004 by a New Zealand- American expedition dedicated to mapping black smokers on the ocean floor.
Both volcanic peaks have a caldera on the summit , in which a volcanic cone sits at the southeast peak. In 2005, occasional hydrothermal activity was observed in the latter.
