Volker Heindel

Volker Heindel (born before 1956) is a former German national basketball player and handball player . With USC Heidelberg  he was German basketball champion seven times, and with SG Leutershausen he was also one German handball champion.

career

In 1956, Heindel celebrated winning the German championship title in the top youth class with the A youth team from USC Heidelberg. A year later, the development player won the German championship with the USC men's team. In 1961 he took part in the European Championship with the German national team. By 1962 he had won five other German championship titles with Heidelberg. The seventh was added in 1966.

At the same time he played handball: in 1966 he was German runner-up with SG Leutershausen, followed by the German championship title in 1968 and another runner-up in 1969.

As the successor to Hannes Neumann , Heindel took over the coaching position of the basketball players at USC Heidelberg for one year in 1971. Professionally, he worked at the University of Heidelberg as head of university sports and academic director of the Heidelberg Institute for Sport and Sport Science.

His nephew Janis Heindel played from 2003 to 2005 and from 2011 to 2014 for USC Heidelberg in the 2nd Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga ProA .
