Volker Mrasek

Volker Mrasek is a German freelance science journalist from Erftstadt who writes in particular on the topics of climate research as well as environmental and food chemistry .

Life

While still in high school, he also worked as a sports reporter for the Kölnische Rundschau and volunteered there as a local editor after leaving school . This was followed by a degree in biology at the University of Cologne , which led him back to radio and television journalism. Since 1991 he has been a freelance science journalist for public press companies such as Deutschlandfunk , Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) and various newspapers such as Süddeutsche , Frankfurter Rundschau and Spiegel Online , formerly for Die Woche and Financial Times Deutschland .

His preferred subject areas are climate research and environmental and food chemistry.

From 1999 to 2015 he was the author and co-author of over 50 programs for Deutschlandfunk, Wissenschaft im Brennpunkt , the background public holiday edition of Forschungs aktuell and numerous science reports on the program, which he alternated with Martin Winkelheide , Mirko Smiljanic , Lucian Haas , Thekla Jahn , Tomma Schröder and others do.
