Volker Sauer

Volker Sauer (born April 1, 1956 in Essen ) is a former German rower who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany .

The 1.86 m tall Volker Sauer from the rowing club at Baldeneysee won the silver medal in the four-man with helmsman at the Junior World Championships in 1973 , and in 1974 he took fourth place in the four-man without helmsman . In 1974 and 1975 he won the German championship title in four-four . At the Rowing World Championships in 1975 Sauer finished seventh with the German eighth . In 1976 and 1977, Volker Sauer was in the victorious boat at the German championships in eighth place. In 1976, Sauer rowed eighth at the Olympic Games in Montreal and finished fourth. At the Rowing World Championships in Amsterdam in 1977 , Sauer won the bronze medal with the German eighth. In 1978 Sauer's Boot finished second at the German championships in eighth place, but was still nominated for the world championships . In the world championship final on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand, Sauer's boat was also the second best German eighth and won the silver medal behind the boat from the GDR. In his last major international start, Volker Sauer finished ninth in 1979 at the World Championships in Bled .
