Ernst Otto Volker Schemmel (born August 12, 1942 in Altenburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was a member of the Volkskammer, a member of the Bundestag and, from 1999 to 2004, a member of the Thuringian state parliament.

Life

After graduating from high school, he was a skilled chemical worker between 1962 and 1971. In 1973 he became an engineer for mechanical engineering (chemical plants) after completing a distance learning course in Dresden and Zwickau . From 1973 to 1989 he was a development engineer at the PCK Schwedt chemical combine - combined company Böhlen. From March to October 1990 he was a member of the last people 's chamber in the GDR , where he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He had been elected for the SPD in the Leipzig constituency . He was then a member of the Bundestag for three months . He then worked for three years as a speaker in the SPD parliamentary group. From 1994 to 1999 he was State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry for Justice and European Affairs.

In the third electoral period (1999 to 2004) Volker Schemmel was a member of the Thuringian state parliament . He held the position of deputy chairman in the interior and justice committee of the state parliament.

Schemmel is married and has one child.
