Volker Straebel
Volker Straebel (* 1969 in Berlin ) is a German musicologist and composer and performer of experimental music.
Life
Straebel grew up in Berlin (West). He studied musicology , philosophy and library science at the Technical University of Berlin and the Humboldt University of Berlin (Magister Artium). As a music journalist , u. a. for the Berliner Tagesspiegel (1996–2001) and the Berlin pages of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (2001–2002), he documented contemporary music and sound art in Berlin. From 2002–2014 he was curatorial advisor to the MaerzMusik festival at the Berliner Festspiele . 2009–2014 he headed the electronic studio in the audio communication department at the Technical University of Berlin . In 2015 Straebel took over the management of the master's degree in Sound Studies at the Berlin University of the Arts , which he fundamentally reformed in 2017 as Sound Studies and Sonic Arts.
Straebel researches and publishes on the history and aesthetics of experimental music and sound art . In these fields he is also active as a composer and interpreter.
