Volker von Alzey

Volker von Alzey is a legend from the Nibelungenlied . He is the minstrel at the Burgundy court in Worms . His headquarters in Alzey is approx. 20 km from Worms. Volker is one of the Burgundian knights and heroes. He dies with the other Burgundians at Hagen's side, fighting at Etzel's castle at Hildebrand's hand.

Excerpt from the Nibelungenlied

“The three künege would be, as I said,
from vil hôhem ellen: in undertân
ouch the best warriors would be , from de one said,
starc and vil küene, undaunted in sharp controversies.

Something from Tronege Hagene and also the bruoder sîn,
Dancwart der vil snelle, von Metzen Ortwîn,
the two marcgrâven Gêre and Ekkewart,
Volkêr von Alzeije , with all the ellen wolves.

New High German translation:

As I have pointed out, the three kings were
of the greatest bravery. Their service also included
the very best fighters one has ever heard of,
strong and extremely brave, unwavering even in the toughest of battles.

They were: Hagen von Tronje and also his brother,
the clever Dankwart, Ortwin von Metz,
the two Margraves Gere and Eckewart
and Volker von Alzey , a man full of fighting strength. "
