Volkmar (Niederaltaich)

Volkmar (* around 1235 ; † May 9, 1282 near Niederaltaich ) was a Benedictine monk and abbot of the Niederaltaich monastery .

In 1280 Volkmar became abbot of the Benedictine monastery in Niederaltaich in Lower Bavaria . He was a strict man and was determined to restore moral and moral discipline . However, he met with fierce resistance and sometimes open disobedience from the monks of his monastery. When Volkmar wanted to cross the Danube in a boat on May 9, 1282 , he was shot from behind with arrows. Dissatisfied monks had murdered their unloved superior.

His feast day in the Catholic Church is May 9th. This is also the name day of the first name Volkmar .
