history
Today's Volksbank Riesa eG was founded in 1855 as an "advance payment association for Riesa and the surrounding area". The Riesa advance payment association, founded in 1855, became the Creditverein zu Riesa in 1877 and, in the 1920s, the "Gewerbebank Riesa eG". In 1946, triggered by the Soviet military administration in Germany, the bank was renamed "Bank für Handel und Gewerbe eGmbH". Further renaming followed in 1971 as "Genossenschaftsbank für Handwerk und Gewerbe" and in 1973 as "Genossenschaftsbank für Handwerk und Gewerbe". Since 1990 the cooperative has been operating again under the name "Volksbank Riesa eG".
