Vologaeses III. was a Parthian king who ruled from around 105 to 147.

Life

Vologaeses III. probably ruled in the east of the empire and was initially the anti-king of Osroes I , who died around 128, which means Vologaeses III. Became sole ruler. Vologaeses III. had to contend with external enemies throughout his reign. Around 135/136 the nomadic Alans invaded the empire from the north and overran the media , the Atropaten , Armenia and Cappadocia . Vologaeses III. could not stop them despite a large army, but they withdrew again for unknown reasons. Apparently there were also problems in the east, where the powerful Kushan empire came into being at that time . The sources there report a war against the Parthians, but the exact chronology of the events is not known. After 147 Vologaeses III disappears. from our sources.
