Von Neumann is an impact crater on the northern hemisphere on the back of the moon .

location

It almost touches the south-southwest edge of the Campbell Crater . The crater Ley connects to the northeastern edge, which is slightly overlapped by the outer foothills. In the west lies the noticeable crater Wiener and south-southwest Nikolayev .

The crater can not be directly observed from Earth .

nature

Von Neumann has a wide inner crater wall with numerous terraces. The width of this wall varies and is largest in the south. At the point of closest approach to Campbell to the northwest of the crater, some scree slopes can be seen. The interface between the two craters is, like the rest of the area, uneven and fissured. The crater outline is roughly circular and appears a bit smoother in the southwest.

The crater floor is almost flat on the west side. From south to north a small chain of hills crosses the interior of the crater and on the east side the surface is more uneven. The inside of the crater and the flanks show no special traces of impact.
