The Voralpsee is a mountain lake in the canton of St. Gallen , which lies in a wooded basin between the subgroups of the Churfirsten and the Alviergruppe in the municipality of Grabs .
description
The Voralpsee was created by a landslide, the rock masses of which broke loose from Chapf in the southeast towards the end of the last Ice Age and dammed the lake. The rubble can still be seen in the forest below the Kurhaus.
Fishing is allowed in the Voralpsee. Every fisherman with a fishing license can obtain day and week tickets from the Werdenberg fishing association. Mainly rainbow trout and arctic char , which survive the winter in the lake and spawn themselves, are fished.
reachability
The Voralpsee is connected to public transport by the Sarganserland-Werdenberg bus line and by post bus from Grabs and Buchs and is also easily accessible by private car. Parking is available near the lake.
Surroundings
The old kiosk on the eastern shore of the lake burned down in June 2011 during renovation work. It was replaced by a new building in the same place. A hiking trail leads around the lake. There are several picnic areas with fire pits available.
Above the Voralpsee is the Berggasthaus Voralp, the former spa house from 1908.
