Christ Immanuel

The Evangelistar by Prince Vukan is an illustrated manuscript in the Old Serbian variant of the Church Slavonic language . It was probably built in 1202 in Ras, the seat of the Principality of Raszien . The manuscript contains the text sections ( pericopes ) of the Gospels of the New Testament for liturgical reading on Sundays and holidays, as well as a menologion and some notes. It consists of 189 preserved parchment leaves in the format 25.3 × 19.7 cm and contains two full-page colored miniatures of the Evangelist John and Christ Immanuel.

Notes report that it was made for Großžupan Vukan , the son of Stefan Nemanja , with a monk named Simeon as the scribe. The Vukan Evangelister is one of the oldest surviving manuscripts in the Serbian language.

It was found on Mount Athos in the 19th century and is now in the Russian National Library in Saint Petersburg , signature F.п.I. 82.
