Vulcaniella cognatella is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 7 to 9 millimeters. Vulcaniella cognatella is similar to Vulcaniella pomposella . The raised, silvery spots on the inner edge of the wing are often pale gold and tinted slightly purple. The first three segments of the abdomen have an ocher brown sheen. A reliable differentiation is only possible by examining the genitals.

The genital fittings of the males are similar to that of Vulcaniella pomposella . The right brachium is curved more inward and tapers abruptly distally . It has a knob-like apex. The left brachium is more straight. The valves are narrow and have parallel walls. The right valvella is slender and curved to the side. It is as long as the distal part of the aedeagus and longer than the valves. The left valvella is short and rounded. The distal part of the aedeagus is slightly curved.

The genital armature of the females is similar to Vulcaniella pomposella , but differs in the wider and flat V-shaped ante-vaginal plate and the posterior sclerotization of the 7th sternite . This sclerotization is indistinctly triangular and has two inwardly sloping lateral ridges and a broad, weakly developed central ridge.

distribution

Vulcaniella cognatella is native to the eastern Mediterranean ( Croatia , Greece , Italy , Macedonia , Sardinia ). In the northeast, the distribution area extends to the Ukraine .

biology

The biology of the species is unknown. Butterflies were collected from June to July.
