The Vulcano di Fango Flop is a deep-sea mountain , specifically a mud volcano , in the Drake Strait north of the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands in Antarctica . It is located west of Elephant Island , covers an area of about 75 km² and rises 115 m from the sea floor. Its summit is 2363 m below sea level .
Scientists from the BSR project carried out between 2003 and 2004 on board the research vessel Explora discovered it. The mountain has been named since 2007 after the 1705 m high Monte Flop on the edge of the Aupa valley in the Italian Alps .
