Polyester urethane rubber
Polyester-urethane rubber (technical abbreviation according to ISO 1629 AU ) is a polyurethane - plastic with elastic properties similar to natural rubber , but better chemical and mechanical resistance. It is known under the trade names Vulkollan ( Bayer AG ) and Urepan ( VKRT , Vereniging van Kuststof en Rubber Technologen ).
Manufacturing
The polymer is typically made from polyester polyols , naphthylene-1,5-diisocyanate, and glycols which act as chain extenders. The reaction partner of the polyester in the manufacture of urepane is the Desmodur TT isocyanate . Sulfur or peroxidic crosslinkers are used as vulcanizing agents .
Properties and use
Polyester-urethane rubber is a rubber-elastic material with a wide range of physical and chemical properties. The elastomer is used as foam, cellular soft plastic ( Zelliges Vulkollan ) and solid plastic ( Massives Vulkollan and Urepan ). The foam and cellular variants are mainly used in pigging technology. The AU has FDA approval for the USA and EU law for use in pigs for food technology and pharmaceuticals . The solid plastic is processed into wheels, discs and rollers, sleeves and coatings.
