Vural Guler
Vural Güler (* 1971 in Ankara , Turkey ) is a Turkish singer and baglama player who sings Turkish folk songs ( Türkü ).
Life
The musician and teacher Vural Güler was born in Ankara in 1971. From 1986 to 1990 he received lessons in music theory from Lütfü Atan , the director of the town choir of Altındağ and worked for four years in choirs, folk dance ensembles and theaters in Ankara and Altındağ. From 1990 to 1992 he received musical training in choral music and in the playing techniques of the baglama from İhsan Öztürk . His subsequent studies at the Technical University of Istanbul enabled Vural Güler to transfer to the musicological faculty at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1997 he founded the Harmonie-Musikschule in Frankfurt.
Artistic creation and music style
For over 20 years, Vural Guler has been playing and teaching bağlama , tar and lute . He also appears regularly at intercultural music and song recitals, concerts and festivals in Germany, Turkey and other European countries, including for over 15 years with the singer and composer Hasan Yükselir . He performed at the Alte Oper and the International Theater Frankfurt, as part of the Ethno-Dance-Night Wiesbaden, the Europa-Forum of Commerzbank, the Hanau Cultural Summer and the Offenbach Leather Museum as well as several times as part of the Parade of Cultures and the MainWeltmusik- Offenbach festivals as well as on the intercultural stage at the Frankfurt Mainuferfest.
Vural Guler has been a member of the Su Arts team since 2001 and, along with Hasan Yükselir, is one of the leading forces in the artistic development of the Türkü as a supra-regional musical idiom for European and international world and art music as part of the project “Türkü ohne Grenzen”.
During his performances, Vural Guler works on traditional Anatolian folk songs and interprets them with the help of national and international artists.
In 2014 he released his album Üryan - (Naked), which consists of a total of twelve folk tunes from different regions of Anatolia, including an instrumental piece.
The musician uses both modern and traditional Turkish instruments in his concerts.
