The Wöhrmannsche Garten , also: Wöhrmanns Garten or Wöhrmannscher Park , Latvian Vērmanes dārzs , is a park in the Latvian capital Riga .

The oldest public park in Riga opened in 1817 and included exotic trees, a rose garden and a restaurant. The idea to create the park came from the Governor General of Livonia, Filippo Paulucci . The park's avenues were planned and planted by the gardener Johann Hermann Zigra . The Prussian Consul General Johann Christoph Wöhrmann (1784–1843) and his mother Anna Wöhrmann supported the construction financially. In her honor, a granite obelisk was donated in the park in 1829, the Wöhrmann monument . In 1881 the park was significantly expanded by Georg Kuphaldt .

In 2001 the valley memorial was erected in the Wöhrmannschen Garten in memory of the chess player Michail Tal . In 2003 the Paulucci monument was re -erected .
