The recognized non-profit association Wunschdirwas e. V., based in Cologne, was founded on March 19, 1989. In 2018, the association voluntarily joined the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .

Wunschdirwas fulfills the heart's desires for chronically and seriously ill children and adolescents nationwide in order to strengthen their courage to face life and release new energies. Around 350 heartfelt wishes are fulfilled every year. According to the statutes, no specific requests are fulfilled, but special experiences are made possible. The spectrum ranges from a musical visit to a helicopter flight to personal penguin feeding or a meeting with your favorite star.

Wunschdirwas works with doctors and therapists from around 100 children's clinics, hospitals and hospices in Germany and supports them in numerous projects, such as B. Clinic parties or the furnishing of playrooms and lounges.

Since 2009 the association has enabled sick children and their families to relax in a holiday home in Hinte, East Frisia (near Emden). In the handicapped-accessible house, which is financed exclusively by sponsorship money, the children, together with their parents and siblings, can recharge their batteries free of charge at any time of the year and treat themselves to a break.

The association's work is supported by sponsors and volunteers . In addition, the following prominent ambassadors were or are committed to the club: the dressage rider Nadine Capellmann , the comedy star Bülent Ceylan , the bestselling author Cornelia Funke , the television chef Roland Trettl , the singer Lena Meyer-Landrut , the television chef Ralf Zacherl and the presenter Jörg Pilawa .
