The Würzburger Bergbund-Hütte is a refuge in the Bavarian Rhön . It belongs to the Bergbund Würzburg section of the German Alpine Club . The hut is located at an altitude of 835 m above sea level. NHN on the southeast slope of the Himmeldunkberg .
history
Foundation of the association on July 23, 1948 as "Berg-Bund Würzburg eV". In the fall of 1957 purchase of land on the Himmeldunkberg. Half a year later, the groundbreaking ceremony for the planned refuge takes place. With a lot of physical and financial effort, the hut is built in its current state in countless hours of work. As far as possible, building materials from the surrounding area are used. Basalt boulders form the foundation of the hut, cement is carried up the mountain in sacks and mixed with basalt chippings. In July 1959, the hut was inaugurated and the first families spent their holidays together at the hut. The simple wooden hut is constantly being improved and expanded. 1961 Beginning of the massive walling of the hut. In the following years, the interior work was tackled, better windows and a staircase are installed, water installation, there are better cooking facilities. In 1974 adjoining plots of land and meadows as well as forest can be bought. The source is being renovated, the house is being thermally insulated, and a photovoltaic system is being installed. From 2005 extension building. The Bergbund Hut has been continuously modernized to this day. It is important to the responsible board members that they do not lose the character and charm of a simple mountain hut with a rustic atmosphere.

The cozy mountain hut can only be reached on foot in 30 to 45 minutes. The accommodation has 45 beds (mattress dormitory), a communal room and a communal kitchen for self-catering. Drinks are offered at the house. After an eventful hike, the Bergbund Würzburg offers the opportunity to rest and stay overnight in the middle of the nature reserve - with a wonderful view over the Rhön mountain ranges.
