Wladyslaw Baka

Władysław Baka (born March 24, 1936 in Boksycka near Kunów ) is a former professor of banking and finance at the University of Warsaw . He was President of Narodowy Bank Polski and a member of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Poland .

Life

In 1959 Władysław Baka (completely Władysław Wacław Baka or Władysław Leon Baka ) graduated from the University of Warsaw with a master's degree in economics and politics . He remained at the university and received his doctorate in 1966 for Dr. oec. He received his habilitation five years later . In 1977 he became a full professor and between 1975 and 1981 was a member of the Presidium of the Economic Committee of the Polish Academy of Economic Sciences . At the same time, Baka was from 1972 to 1986 in the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party ( Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza, PZPR ), of which he had been a member since 1955. Most recently as secretary of the Economic Reform Committee. On July 12, 1981, he became Minister without Portfolio under Wojciech Jaruzelski , responsible for economic reforms. He stayed that way until November 1985, when he became President of the Polish Central Bank ( Narodowy Bank Polski ). Zdzisław Pakuła succeeded him in this position in July 1988 , while Władysław Baka was again active in the Central Committee. As a government representative, he sat at the Polish round table . He ran in the parliamentary elections in 1989 , but could not win a seat. From September 1989 he was again President of the Central Bank and remained so until January 1991. From 2000 he taught at the Akademia Leona Koźmińskiego .
