W. Wallace McDowell, Jr.

W. Wallace McDowell Jr. (born 1935 ) is an American entrepreneur. He was Chairman of the board of Illinois Central .

Career

W. Wallace McDowell Jr. graduated from Princeton University in 1958 . In 1963, he received his Master of BA degree from the University of Virginia . He then began a managerial position at the Philip Morris Group. From 1978 he was Executive Vice President Operations. When Louis Marx Jr. founded the investment and venture capital company The Prospect Group in 1983 , he became Chairman of the board and Chief Executive Officer . He remained in this position until January 1990, during which time all of the company's investments were made. Therefore, he was also Chairman of the Midsouth Rail Corporation from 1986 to 1989 and then until 1990 Chairman of the Illinois Central Corporation (holding company of the Illinois Central Railroad ) and chairman of several other holdings.

From January 1991 to November 1, 1994, he was executive director of investment firm Morgan Lewis Githens & Ahn and from May 1992 to April 1997 he was chairman of ITI Technologies Inc. (now Interlogix Inc.). In 1993 he was involved in an attempt to acquire the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad .

He has been a private investor since November 1994.

In addition, McDowell sat from 1992 to 1996 on the board of directors of the US HomeCare Corporation, the Knowledge Learning Corporation (since 1984), Grossman's Inc. and Jack Morton Productions.
