The Waldkirchhof Mahlsdorf is a cemetery of the Evangelical Church Community Berlin-Mahlsdorf . It is administered by the Evangelical Cemetery Association Berlin South-East.

location

The name "Waldkirchhof" is due to the forest character of the area with a dense population of Scots pines . The 2.8  hectare area of the cemetery with the main entrance at Rahnsdorfer Straße 30 is exclusively on the territory of the Brandenburg municipality of Hoppegarten .

history

Cemetery bell

Due to the population increase in Mahlsdorf in the 1920s, the old cemetery at the old parish church was no longer sufficient. To create a new community cemetery, Heinrich von Treskow, the owner of the Dahlwitz manor , donated the area to the Mahlsdorf parish .

The first funeral took place on September 18, 1923. The small hexagonal cemetery chapel with a pointed roof was put into service in 1924. In 1933 the residential and administrative building (at that time with a massive stable) was completed on the site. The chapel and administration building were badly damaged in an air raid on December 24, 1944. The bell tower was built in 1954 and the cemetery bell was consecrated in June 1955.

In the cemetery chapel there is a concert once a year on the eve of the Sunday of the dead .
