The ships of the type WARNOW CV 5500 are the largest container ships that have been built at a German shipyard to date. Due to the time window requested by the customer and the EU capacity restrictions imposed on the East German shipyards, these ships were built in cooperation with Kvaerner Warnow Werft GmbH and Aker MTW Werft GmbH . The leading shipyard is the Kvaerner Warnow Werft GmbH. The client was P&O Nedlloyd Container BV, Holland .
Brief description
The ships are an in-house development of KWW. At that time, they marked the breakthrough in the Post- Panamax class for a German shipyard. The WARNOW CV 5500 ships are 276 m long, 40 m wide and have a container capacity of 5,248 TEU as well as connections for 500 reefer containers. The ships were designed and built according to the regulations of the Germanischer Lloyd classification society and the See-BG . Due to the positive experience with the ECDIS navigation system, which was first used on the WARNOW CV 2900mod ships, these ships were also equipped with it. The low-speed long- stroke diesel engine of the type HHI - 10 RTA 96 C, built under NSD license, was manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. in Ulsan, South Korea. The propeller is a 6-bladed high-skew propeller and was also supplied by Mecklenburg Metallguss Waren GmbH (MMG).
