WEW (radio station)

WEW is a US radio station based in St. Louis , Missouri . The station broadcasts what is known as an ethnic program with programs in Bosnian , and on weekends in German, Italian, Polish and Spanish. The station is only allowed to transmit during the day, as the transmission frequency is also occupied by the Clear Channel Station WABC from New York City . The studios are on Hampton Avenue in St. Louis, while the transmitters are in Caseyville .

WEW is the oldest radio station west of the Mississippi and the second oldest in the United States. It was officially licensed in April 1921, just weeks after KDKA Pittsburgh. WEW was founded by St. Louis University and operated until 1961. Since then, it has changed hands several times and is currently owned by Birach Broadcasting.
