The Saint Louis University (also SLU is called) is a private university in St. Louis in the US state of Missouri . With 13,785 students, it is the fourth largest Jesuit college in the United States . It is one of 28 member universities of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and is one of the top five Catholic universities in the United States .
history
The Saint Louis Academy was founded in 1818, making it the oldest Jesuit college west of the Mississippi and the second oldest Jesuit college in the United States. The first doctor of medicine west of the Mississippi was awarded at Saint Louis University. African Americans have been admitted to college since 1943.
