WHOW ("The Big 1520") is a US radio station based in Clinton , Illinois . The station transmits on the medium wave frequency 1520 k Hz . The clear channel stations WWKB and KOKC (AM) are dominant on this frequency .

The station transmits with 5 k W during the day and with 1 kW in the "critical hours". At night, the station stops broadcasting. WHOW is part of Kaskasia Media / Miller Media. The program is simulcasted by a converter to ultra-short wave (VHF) 92.3 MHz .

WHOW broadcasts a news and talk format under the brand "The Big 1520" . In addition to regional and national programs, the station also broadcasts programs in particular for agriculture and takeovers of the RFD Radio Network ( FarmWeek Now ). The radio station sees the farmers in Central Illinois as the target group. A farm show is broadcast in the morning and agricultural talk shows such as "Agri-Talk" in the evening. WHOW started operations in 1947 with a 1 kW transmitter. A strong onset of winter in 2006 destroyed the transmitter mast and the station was “off-air” for days.
