WOW HD
WOW HD is an Internet mail order company that sells CDs , DVDs, and console and computer games .
The store opened in the UK in February 2000 under the name CD WOW! started and later spread to other countries. A page in German has been available since April 2003.
The mail order company hit the headlines in 2003 when it was sued by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for selling CDs up to 25% cheaper than the UK. The disputed CDs were legal, but only licensed for sale and distribution in Hong Kong , so prices for that market were fixed. The BPI argued that the low prices would hurt competition in the UK and the rest of Europe and sued CD WOW! and its parent company Music Trading On-Line (HK) Ltd. citing the English “Copyright, Designs and Patents” law from 1988. CD WOW! Thereupon decided to raise prices generally by £ 1 (about € 1.50 ) and cited litigation costs as a reason for not wanting to go to the High Court of Justice .
The mail order company was fined the equivalent of £ 41 million for copyright infringement, according to a May 2007 report by the BPI . However, the judgment is not final. According to a report by British magazine MCV, CD WOW! under administration by Borelli Walsh. In August 2007 CD WOW! sold to the Australian internet company Stomp Entertainment and redesigned its internet presence.
At the end of February 2012, CD WOW! Renamed to WOW HD . Owner is Elan Media Partner Pty Ltd.
