WPCI is an American blues station from Greenville , South Carolina . Under the slogan Definitive Rhythm & Blues , WPCI broadcasts a non-stop music program on medium wave 1490 kHz with 1 kW.

WPCI is owned by Randy Mathena (Paper Cutters, Inc.).

history

In 1940 the Royal Crown Cola drinks dealer James E. Jolly started the WMRC transmitter on medium wave 1490 kHz. WMRC meant “We Make Royal Crown”. The station broadcast Southern Gospel , World Transcription Library programs and Country des Mutual Broadcasting System and NBC's Blue network for textile workers in the area. In 1954 the WPCI callsign was licensed. Since November 2005 WPCI has also been broadcasting on medium wave HD radio.
