WUKY is the flagship station for National Public Radio in Kentucky . The station broadcasts an Adult Album Alternative (Indie Rock) format. In addition to acquisitions by NPR, Public Radio International , the BBC and American Public Media , over 100 hours of its own music program are broadcast each week. The studios are located in McVey Hall on the UK campus.

WUKY transmits with 100 kW on FM 91.3 MHz. Different programs are broadcast via three HD channels: HD-1 WUKY-NPR Rocks at 91.3; HD-2 NPR and on HD-3 WUKX Jazz 24.

WUKY was the first university-owned station in the USA and started operations in the 1940s as a transmitter for the University of Kentucky . Since then, the station has been firmly anchored locally in Kentucky and has hosted a "Gallery Hop" and the Bluegrass Mud Run .
