W (read as Double You ) was a J-Pop - girl group under the umbrella of the Hello! Projects that existed from 2004 to 2006.

The duo was formed shortly after it was announced that Tsuji and Kago would be leaving the Morning Musume group . It was also at this time that Minimoni , another group in which the two participated, broke up. Tanpopo , of which Kago was a member , had already been dissolved. Free from other obligations, both members could now devote themselves to W.

When a tabloid caught Kago smoking in 2006 and then briefly pulled her out of “Hello! Project ”was excluded, a time- out was agreed for W. This never ended, however, as Kago was fired in 2007 after a second scandal. Tsuji then became part of another subgroup of the “Hello! Projects "named Gyaruru ( ギ ャ ル ル ).

W released a total of six singles , including three top ten singles, and two albums. Further releases, at least one single and album, whose name and release dates were known, have been canceled.

In 2018, after 12 years, there was again contact between Ai Kago and Hello! Project. She was invited to the 20th anniversary celebrations of the project. At this point, however, Tsuji was pregnant, so the two could not stand on stage together. A year later, in March 2019, the duo then performed together again for the first time in 13 years. On the same day, several songs were digitally released that were actually planned for their seventh single and third album.
