Wa'ad HaLaschon

Wa'ad HaLaschon, Hebrew for "Committee of the Hebrew Language", was a Jewish institution for the further development and standardization of the Hebrew language with its seat in Givat Ram .

The committee was founded in 1890 by Eliezer Ben-Jehuda and was the organization that drafted regulations for the spoken language as everyday language. This was intended to enable the immigrants in Palestine to use a common language in order to strengthen and re-convey the feeling of national belonging.

The Wa'ad HaLaschon ha- 'Ivrit was the forerunner of the Academy of the Hebrew Language, which still exists today, and regulated orthoepy and orthography .
