As Waagstock in is beekeeping beings and beekeeping a single hive referred to, in which the weight changes of the held therein colony by means of a weighing device are determined and monitored. Mostly a so- called hive scale (also called beehive scale or bee scale) is used on which the scale is placed. The term Waagstock is partly synonymous for the entire bee used -Wägevorrichtung along with scales, beehive and etwaigem protection house.

Weighing sticks were used early on, as weight control had proven to be the best method for non-invasive assessment of the condition of a bee colony and was known. About the increase and decrease of the prey weight a forecast on upcoming can be beekeepers work meeting. While mechanical stick scales - mostly in the form of beam scales  - have been used as scales so far , electronic stick scales are increasingly being used today. With the use of special measuring technology and remote data transmission as well as automated recording of other factors such as the internal temperature of the balance and weather observation, these enable very detailed foraging observations as well as remote monitoring of bee colonies. The development is partly towards so-called costume monitoring via the Internet.
