Wadan shipyard in Wismar

Wadan Yards was a shipbuilding company . It was created through the sale of the two German shipyards in Wismar and Rostock - Warnemünde as well as the shipyard in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, from the Norwegian company STX Europe (formerly: Aker Yards) to the Russian investment company FLC West .

On June 5, 2009, the company filed for bankruptcy . The shipyards in Wismar and Warnemünde were taken over by Nordic Yards from the insolvency proceedings .

history

In March 2008 Aker Yards sold the majority of the two German shipyards and the shipyard in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, to the Russian investment company FLC West , which is controlled by businessmen Andrei Burlakow , Evgeni Sarizki and Sergey Morozov. The three shipyards became part of the new joint venture Aker Yards Ukraine Holding , in which FLC West owns 70 percent and Aker Yards 30 percent of the shares. The transaction took effect retrospectively on January 1, 2008, and from September 22, the shipyards operated as Wadan Yards . The purchase price was EUR 248.9 million.

The agreement between STX Europe and FLC West includes contracts for four container ships that were scheduled for delivery in 2010. The agreement also includes an option for Wadan Yards to acquire a 21.3 percent stake in the Finnish technology company Aker Arctic , in which STX Europe previously (as of 2008) held 71.4 percent.

The head office of the group was with the holding Wadan Yards Group AS in Oslo . There were also offices in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The three shipyards of the group were now called Wadan Yards MTW GmbH (in Wismar), Wadan Yards Warnow GmbH (in Warnemünde) and Wadan Yards Okean OJSC (in Mykolaiv).

On June 5, 2009, the German parts of the company (Wadan Yards MTW GmbH, Wadan Yards Warnow GmbH, Wadan Yards Warnow Real Estate GmbH, Wadan Yards LNG Technology GmbH, Wadan Yards MTW Real Estate GmbH) filed for insolvency at the Schwerin District Court . The Schwerin lawyer Marc Odebrecht, member of the law firm Brinkmann & Partner, was appointed as insolvency administrator. In mid-August 2009 the insolvency administrator was able to present a buyer for the shipyards and their assets. The head of the Moscow Nordstream office Vitaly Yusufov , son of the former Russian energy minister and Gazprom supervisory board member Igor Yusufov , acquired the shipyards through the Nordic Yards established by him for around 40.5 million euros. The creditors' committee approved the sale retrospectively on August 17, 2009. Yusufov announced that he would keep half of the approximately 2500 jobs. He gave an employment guarantee for 1200 employees. After the sale of all assets, the insolvent companies of the German Wadan Yards are now a legal shell without content, through which the Wadan creditors are compensated.
