Waddish Platt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Waddisch Platt is the Lower Franconian dialect of Essen-Werden .

Together with the Mölmsch Platt of the south of Mülheim , the Kettwägsch Platt ( Essen-Kettwig ) and the Langenberger Platt ( Velbert-Langenberg ), Waddish is one of the Ostberg dialects, a variant of Lower Franconian that already has some Bergisch influences.

The dialects that are spoken north of Werden, such as Borbecksch Platt in Essen-Borbeck or Essensch Platt in the center of Essen, already belong to the South Westphalian dialects, a variant of Westphalian . The unit plural line, the northernmost line of the Rhenish fan, is the language border to Westphalian .

A new dialect anthology of Lower Franconian varieties on the lower Ruhr ("RuSaKeWe") shows their high similarity in the towns of Duisburg-Ruhrort (Ruhrsch Platt) via Mülheim-Saarn (Ssaansch Platt) , Essen-Kettwig (Kettwägsch Platt) and eating (Waddish Platt) .

Linguistic features

The EI is Waddischen not a closed volume: the I dominates over the e .

A distinction must be made with the O : There are two timbres. With one, the O is pronounced in the front of the mouth (light O) , with the other, the O from the throat is pronounced darkly sounding, almost colored with A. The second variant can be identified by a double O. For example:

  • Pote (paw) → light O
  • Poote (gate) → dark O
  • Strotto (gargle) → light O
  • Stroote (street) → dark O
