Vadim Alexandrowitsch Tokarew ( Russian: Вадим Александрович Токарев ; born February 29, 1972 in Kazan ) is a Russian boxer.

Professional career

Former kickboxer Tokarew became a professional cruiserweight in Russia in 2000 at the age of 28 and, despite victories over ex-IBF world champion Arthur Williams, took care of amateur world champion Michael Simms and the only once defeated Darnell Wilson, against whom he was won every round, just for little attention. He only managed a draw in Germany against Firat Arslan , who was not particularly respected at the time .

The lack of interest changed dramatically in 2006 with his spectacular appearance in the USA against the undefeated and highly rated American Felix Cora. He not only managed a knockout win, but boxed as if unleashed and delighted the critics. After this victory he is one of the absolute world leaders in the weight class. And he immediately followed up: The American Shane Swartz, who had recently defeated world-class opponent Dale Brown, was knocked out by him in just two rounds.

He was then nominated by the IBF for an elimination match of the association, in which he competed against Marco Huck . He lost to Huck on May 26, 2007 over twelve rounds on points (114: 114; 117: 110; 117: 110).
