Wadim Selmanowitsch Faibissowitsch ( Russian Вадим Зельманович Файбисович ; born May 8, 1944 in Molotov Oblast ) is a Russian chess player and trainer.

Career

Vadim Faibissowitsch was born in 1944 in Molotov Oblast , where his parents, who had evacuated from Leningrad , lived at the time. He graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics . At the end of 1962 he was first in the Soviet championship with the Leningrad selection on the youth board. He took part in several Leningrad city championships and won three times: in 1965, 1969 and 1977. Since 1965 he had the title of national champion. In 1967 he won the XIV Student Olympiad in Harrachov with the Soviet team . Two years later Faibissowitsch took first place at the XI. international tournament of the Central Chess Club of the USSR in Vilnius with 8 points out of 11. Albert Kapengut landed half a point behind him, and Yuri Rasuwajew took third place .

In 1993 FIDE awarded Faibissowitsch the title of International Master . 1999 and 2000 he was with the Sollentuna SK first at the Swedish team championship . At the European senior team championship he achieved second place with the St. Petersburg team in Rogaška Slatina in 2012 and first place in Vienna in 2015 . Also with the team from Saint Petersburg, he won the Senior World Team Championship (over 65 years of age) in Vilnius in 2014. Since 1986 he has been working as a junior coach in the former Leningrad Pioneers Palace, and he also worked for a time in the Smyslov Chess School. He also deals with the history of the chess game in his hometown.

His current Elo rating is 2352 (as of May 2016); the highest rating to date was 2460 in January 1978.
