from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wahb ibn ʿAbd Manāf ibn Zuhra ibn Kilāb, Arabic وهب بن عبد مناف بن زهرة بن كلاب, DMG Wahb b. ʿAbd Manāf b. Zuhra b. Kilāb , was the grandfather of Mohammed on his mother's side . In the first half of the 6th century he was the head ( sayyid ) of the Banū Zuhra in Mecca . The local historian al-Azraqī counts him among the most distinguished people in the city ( min ašrāf ahl Makka ). His daughter Āmina bint Wahb married ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib ; Mohammed emerged from this marriage. At the same time, in the same family meeting ( madschlis ), ʿAbd al-Muttalib ibn Hāschim Hāla, the daughter of Āmina's uncle Wuhaib ibn ʿAbd Manāf; from this marriage came Ḥamza ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib, the uncle and milk brother of Muhammad.

Nothing is known about his life. In Islamic literature he is only mentioned in connection with the marriage of his daughter Āmina. According to a brief account of al-Azraqī in the history of the city of Mecca, his house in Mecca came into the possession of the Banū Umayya family . The genealogist Al-Balādhurī mentions his name in the family tree of ʿAbd al-Muttalib ibn Hāschim .
