Wahba az-Zuhailī

Wahba Mustafā az-Zuhailī ( Arabic وهبة مصطفى الزحيلي, DMG Wahba Muṣṭafā az-Zuḥailī , * 1932 in Deir Atiyeh; † August 8, 2015 ) was a scholar in the field of Islamic law and legal theory. He was also considered an expert on Islamic international law. Az-Zuhaili was an advocate of traditional Orthodox Sunni Islam and a popular preacher.

He was the head of the Department for Islamic Jurisprudence and Teaching (قسم الفقه الإسلامي ومذاهبه) at the College for Sharia Law (كلية الشريعة Kullı̄yat aš-Šarı̄ʻa ) of the University of Damascus in Syria.

He was on 13 October 2007 one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( english A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (Engl. "Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere… ”).
