Elected to the Zanzibar Legislative Council in January 1961
The election to the Legislative Council in Zanzibar in January 1961 was the second election to the Legislative Council of the Sultanate of Zanzibar .
The result was that the Afro-Shirazi Party ( ASP ) won a total of ten seats, the Zanzibar Nationalist Party ( ZNP ) nine, and the Zanzibar and Pemba People's Party ( ZPPP ) three. When both the ASP and the ZNP tried to form a government, two ZPPP members joined the ZNP and one joined the ASP. Because of the resulting stalemate , new elections were held in June.
Of the 95,000 registered voters, 85,000 took part in the election.
